The Dorothea Mackellar National Poetry Competition

The Dorothea Mackellar National Poetry Competition invites entry from people of all ages within Australia and overseas. Each year the governing body set a theme for the poetry and this can be interpreted by the aspiring authors. All classes at St Matthews are involved in a study of poetry around the time entries for this competition are due. Children submit their entry to the class teacher and with consultation the best six are selected. These are then judged by a panel of experts within the school and the best twenty poems across the school are published and sent off as our school entry in the competition.
