Mathematics is essential for living. At St Matthew's we aim to develop in students:

Our approach to teaching Mathematics at St Matthew’s reflects the draft National Curriculum - Mathematics. The curriculum is divided between the main strands of mathematical development: Number, Space, Measurement and Working Mathematically.

Teaching and learning activities combine a hands-on, practical approach with written work. Teachers have a selection of resources to support programming and teaching Mathematics, including extensive stores of mathematical equipment, computer software and resource books.

Students in Years 3 and 5 participate in the NAPLAN testing. These tests provide valuable feedback for parents and teachers. We offer students the opportunity to be involved in other mathematical activities including maths competitions during the year.
