Thank You for a Wonderful Grandparents Day!
Thank you to all the Grandparents, Grand-friends, and family members who joined us for our Grandparents Day celebrations on Friday. The students were thrilled to share this special day with you, and it was clear that the joy was mutual. Your presence made the day memorable and highlighted the wonderful community spirit we share here at St. Matthew’s.
Thank you, also, to the visitors who purchased a book from the bookstall; we now have seventy-two new books for our school library - wow!
I would like to thank Mrs Mitchell for organising the beautiful prayer celebration, Mrs Deighton for preparing the lovely music, Mrs Cole and Mrs Powell for arranging the morning tea, Miss Judd for organising the bookstall and Mr Hunt for creating the slideshow and assisting with the setup.
Executive Director Resignation Announcement
I wish to inform you of the resignation of Mr. Ross Fox, who has served as Executive Director of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn for the past eight years. Ross has been a dedicated leader, instrumental in providing our staff with quality, evidence-based professional learning opportunities, and committed to enhancing the learning outcomes for every student within our system. His impact will be remembered and valued across our schools.
This week, it was announced that Ms. Pam Betts will assume the role of interim Executive Director. Ms Betts brings extensive experience, having served in the Executive Director position in Brisbane and Lismore and holding other significant executive roles within Sandhurst and beyond. We are confident that Ms. Betts will lead with vision and commitment, building on the great work happening in this Archdiocese.
Parent / Teacher Communication
At St Matthew's, we value open communication between parents and teachers, recognising that a strong partnership supports the success of our students. The best way to reach your child’s teacher is by email or by calling the school office to arrange a convenient time. Catching teachers before school without prior notice can be challenging, as they may be preparing for the day, on playground duty, or attending morning meetings. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to working together to support our students.
Sushi Tuesdays
We are excited to announce "Sushi Tuesday", an additional school tuckshop day each week, starting on Tuesday, 5 November!
Staff and students can place their sushi orders online, which will be delivered to the school for lunch each Tuesday. This initiative will be a trial for the remainder of the year, and if successful, it will continue on an ongoing basis. We hope everyone enjoys this fresh and convenient lunch option, and we look forward to your feedback as we launch this new service.
Please note that orders need to be placed by 8.00pm the Sunday evening before the order day.

The School Explorers - School Transition Program
Tomorrow, we welcome our future 2025 Kindergarten class to St Matthew's with the commencement of The School Explorers – School Transition Program.
The first session, 'Solve It!' will focus on early numeracy concepts and the development of mathematical understanding and skills.
Please note that our 2025 Kindergarten students and those who have not yet enrolled for school can take part in this program; please spread the word.
We ask that when parents and carers arrive they sign the attendance sheet in the foyer and move into the school hall for the commencement of each session at 2.00 pm. Parents and carers are welcome to stay or drop off their children and return at the end of the session at 2.50 pm.
Do you know a child starting school next year? We would love for you to encourage them to visit! Please contact the office to book a tour and learn more about what St Matthew’s Primary School has to offer. We are currently accepting enrolments for our 2025 Kindergarten and Year One classes.
Day for Daniel – Child Safety Awareness
On Monday, 28 October, St Matthew's students participated in Do it for Daniel Day, a national event dedicated to promoting child safety and awareness. Our students engaged in age-appropriate activities designed to teach them valuable lessons about personal safety, both in real life and online. These activities, guided by resources from the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, help empower children and their families with essential skills to stay safe. We are proud to support this important cause and to contribute to a safer future for all.
Year 1 Prayer Celebration Invitation
Our Year One teachers, Mrs Leggett and Ms Buckler, invite students, families, and members of our school community to join us for the Year 1 Remembrance Day Prayer Celebration on Friday, 8 November, at 8:55 am (in lieu of Monday, 11 November).
Attendees are welcome to bring special commemorative items, such as images, medals, or pieces of clothing, to place in an allocated prayer space during the celebration.
We look forward to coming together as a community in prayer and reflection.
Yours in truth, goodness, unity and love,
Mrs Sarah Lowe
Principal
